LIU Announces Inaugural Women's Hockey Slate for 2019-20

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Head coach Rob Morgan released the inaugural Long Island University women's ice hockey schedule on Thursday, June 13, a 29-game regular season slate with four exhibition contests.

LIU will split its home contests in its first season between Iceworks in Syosset, N.Y., and the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, N.Y. Both facilities have been used for training by the New York Islanders and are two of the premier rinks on Long Island. The team will also compete in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance
 
The Sharks will add an exhibition opener against the Metropolitan Riveters, a member of the National Women's Hockey League on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Iceworks. The regular season commences on Friday, Oct. 4 in the first of a two-game home series with the University of Connecticut. The home stretch continues when LIU welcomes defending National Champion, University of Wisconsin to Merrick on Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. A six-game non-conference stretch to begin the season concludes on Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16 when the Sharks travel to New Haven, Conn. for a two-game series with Yale University.
 
The Blue and Gold open NEWHA play on Friday, Nov. 1 in the first of a three-game road stretch of league play at Saint Michael's College. After a two-game set in South Burlington. Vt., the Sharks travel to Shelton, Conn. for the first of a home-and-home weekend series with Sacred Heart on Friday, Nov. 8. LIU competes in a second-straight weekend home-and-home NEWHA series beginning on Friday, Nov. 15 at Post University before hosting the Eagles on Saturday, Nov. 16.
 
Non-conference tilts with Sacred Heart, Franklin Pierce University, and the Rochester Institute of Technology lead the Sharks into three days of competition north of the border at the Theresa Humes Tournament in Montreal, Quebec. LIU will compete in three exhibition contests at the event before returning to NEWHA competition the rest of the way in 2020.
 
LIU opens the 2020 calendar year with four home games against Saint Anselm College and Saint Michael's. Following two home-and-home weekend series against Sacred Heart and Post, the Sharks return to New England for four games at Franklin Pierce and Saint Anselm to close out the regular season.
 
The top four teams in the league standings will qualify to compete for a NEWHA title beginning on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Sullivan Arena on the campus of Saint Anselm. Two semifinal contests will be held on Saturday with a champion being crowned on Sunday, Feb. 23.
