SHU defeats LIU 4-2 in Finals

East Meadow, N.Y. – Sacred Heart women's ice hockey earned the NEWHA Championship title with a 4-2 victory over LIU, securing their second championship in program history and their first since 2018. 

After a scoreless first period, LIU struck first as Maggie Culp scored a power-play goal 5:52 into the second. However, Sacred Heart responded just 16 seconds later when Isabella Chaput netted the equalizer. The Pioneers maintained their momentum, with Grayson Limke converting on the power play and Chaput adding her second goal of the night to give Sacred Heart a 3-1 lead.

 The Pioneers continued to find success on special teams, including an insurance goal from Ella Holm to secure a 4-2 lead.  Senior goalie Carly Greene was stellar in net for the Pioneers, making 30 saves and allowing two goals on 32 shots. Sacred Heart outshot LIU 32-27.

With the championship win and automatic bid secured, the Pioneers now turn their focus to the 2025 NCAA NC Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. The selection show is set for Sunday, March 9, at 11:30 a.m. ET and will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
