NEWHA Weekly Awards: Week 4
Player of the Week
Maddi Achtyl, Stonehill College
The senior recorded her first-career hat trick on Friday evening against Sacred Heart, capped by an overtime winner against the Pioneers. She added another goal on Saturday, which turned out to be the game-winner, in the Skyhawks' 2-0 win over the Pioneers. The Lancaster, N.Y. native tallied eight shots over the weekend for Stonehill, contributing to the Skyhawks' first two wins of the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Maggie Korneta, Franklin Pierce University
The senior defender anchored the blue line for the Ravens in their weekend series against Post. The Ravens finished the weekend 1-1 with the help of her seven total blocked shots over the two-game slate. Additionally, the Naperville, Ill. native posted a plus two rating in both contests, finishing the weekend +4 overall. She also contributed three shots over the weekend's campaign.
Goaltender of the Week
The senior netminder helped the Skyhawks to their first sweep of the season, delivering a 43-save shutout on Saturday against Sacred Heart. She came up especially stellar in the third period on Saturday, stopping 28 shots in the final 20 minutes of regulation. The North Billerica, Mass. native's performance marked her seventh collegiate shutout and her first of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Georgia Stevens, Post University
The freshman recorded her first collegiate goal against Franklin Pierce on Friday, helping the Eagles to their first win of the season. She assisted on the first goal of the game, marking her first collegiate assist, before scoring the go-ahead goal, part of a stretch of three unanswered strikes for the Eagles. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native tallied a total of four shots over the weekend and posted a +2 rating.
