NEWHA Weekly Awards: Week 7
Player of the Week
Alexis Poppleton, Saint Anselm College
The junior led the Hawks with four points in their 2-1-0 (2-0-0 NEWHA) week. She assisted in two goals in Friday's 4-2 win over Post before notching a goal and adding another assist in Saturday's 4-0 win to help the Hawks to a weekend sweep on the road over Post. She posted a plus-two on-ice rating in both games of the weekend campaign to finish the week with a plus-four rating. She also tallied nine total shots over the week. The Gillette, Wyo. native's contributions helped the Hawks maintain their placement at the top of the NEWHA standings with a 7-1-0 conference record.
Defensive Player of the Week
Melanie Targosz, Franklin Pierce University
The freshman defender tallied one goal and one assist for the Ravens in Saturday's 3-0 win over LIU. Her contributions helped the Ravens to a 1-1-0 conference weekend, splitting the series with the Sharks. She also recorded three total blocks across both games with three total shots. The Livonia, Mich. native had an even plus/minus rating across both contests.
Goaltender of the Week
The senior netminder continued a stellar start to the season in goal for the Skyhawks in Friday's win over Assumption. She recorded a .967 save percentage with a 1.00 goals-against average as she made 29 total saves to help the Skyhawks to a 4-1 conference victory. Her effort marked her third consecutive game allowing one goal or fewer, and lowered her season goals against average to 1.39 for the season, the best mark among NEWHA goaltenders and sixth-best nationally. The North Billerica, Mass. native owns a .960 save percentage on the season, ranking first in the league and second in the country.
Rookie of the Week
Kayla Czukoski, Saint Anselm College
The freshman netminder backstopped the Hawks in both Tuesday's non-conference clash against No.12/13 Yale, and Friday's contest against Post. She allowed just four goals over 105 shots faced in two games played. She posted a combined .965 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average. She made 50 saves against Yale in a 2-0 loss on home ice on Tuesday before making 55 stops in Friday night's 4-2 win over Post.
