NEWHA Weekly Awards: Week 8
Co-Player of the Week
Kayla McGaffigan, Assumption University
The junior posted a five-point week as the Greyhounds secured a weekend sweep against Saint Michael's, earning a 6-1 victory on Friday before following that up with a 5-0 shutout win on Saturday, both on the road. The South Dennis, Mass. native posted three assists on Friday before adding two goals on Saturday to finish with five points and a plus-four on-ice rating for the weekend.
Co-Player of the Week
Brooklyn Schneiderhan, Saint Anselm College
The senior recorded one goal in a 2-1 win on Friday before adding four points via a two-goal, two-assist output in Saturday's 8-2 victory as the Hawks recorded a weekend sweep of LIU on home ice. Schneiderhan finished the weekend as a plus-four, with one game-winning goal to her credit. Her two goals on Saturday marked her 50th and 51st career goals, placing her tied-seventh in career goals scored in the Hawks' record book.
Defensive Player of the Week
Justina Valentini, Assumption University
The junior defender helped Assumption's offensive output in its weekend sweep, posting one goal and two assists while finishing plus-two following the pair of wins. The Minnetonka, Minn. native posted an assist while being a +1 on Friday, but was also on the ice for two of the three power-play goals by the Greyhounds. She capped off the weekend with a goal and an assist in the Hounds' 5-0 shutout, tallying a power play goal.
Goaltender of the Week
Kayla Czukoski, Saint Anselm College
The freshman made 91 total saves over a weekend slate against LIU, helping the Hawks to a sweep of the Sharks to remain atop the league standings. In Friday night's 2-1 victory, the Exton, Pa. native made 48 stops before she posted 43 saves in Saturday's 8-2 triumph. She finished the weekend with a 1.50 goals against average and a .968 save percentage.
Rookie of the Week
Abby Broz, Franklin Pierce University
The freshman hailing from White Bear Lake, Minn. recorded two goals across both games as the Ravens skated to a pair of wins against Stonehill on Friday and Saturday. She maintained a plus-2 rating throughout the weekend, scoring one power play goal.
