NEWHA Weekly Awards: Week 10
Player of the Week
Gracie Sacca, Stonehill College
The senior forward powered Stonehill's offense against No. 1 Wisconsin on November 30, contributing to both Stonehill goals by assisting on Peyton Wise's second goal of the season and finding a goal of her own in the third period. With this effort, the Skyhawks became one of just six teams in the nation to tally at least two goals against the top-ranked Badgers this season. The Manotick, Ontario native finished the week with two points on six shots.
Defensive Player of the Week
Justina Valentini, Assumption University
The junior defender earned the weekly nod after recording two blocks and two shots against Holy Cross and notching an assist and a plus-one on-ice rating against Merrimack. The assist pushed Valentini's point total to 12 on the season. The Minnetonka, Minn. native is tied for second-most assists in the league with ten.
Goaltender of the Week
Jillian Petruno, Sacred Heart University
The senior's standout performance in between the pipes Saturday against No. 9 Quinnipiac in the Nutmeg Classic guided her to the weekly honors. The Wixom, Mich. native allowed just two goals and recorded 56 saves with a save percentage of .966 for the Pioneers in a narrow 2-0 loss. Her save percentage and goals-against average both rank in the top three in the NEWHA.
Rookie of the Week
Sasha Marino, Assumption University
The freshman forward from Westwood, Mass. tallied four shots over the weekend, finding the back of the net against Holy Cross for her second collegiate goal. In total, she fired four shots on target and finished with an even plus-minus rating.
